Our student-athletes returned to the 14th courts this past weekend ready to level up. Our guest speaker Andrew Mandujano, a well renowned Long Beach Community Organizer, came with the heat.
Andrew discussed his personal life story with gang violence on how gangs affected him and his family, taking the life of a loved one. Andrew also touched on how creating neighborhood impact won't occur with just one or two people advocating for change but with an organized community coming together for lasting policy and systems change.
In addition, the author (Justin Michael Willams) of our student-athletes book "Stay Woke," created a personalized video message for the B&B Youth Academy. Justin talked to our youth about what energy they will need to go about their vision, and how they can find the energy to use it towards the future they want to cultivate.
It was a full day of lessons that lead into their basketball skills clinic with different courts being used for repetition on the fundamentals and others used for fun, competitive games.
